Coconut Diet – A Diet That Promotes Weight Loss

Coconut diet is a diet that involves the use of coconut oil and is a low carb diet that helps to lose weight and alleviate the health problems. Coconut diet is based on the principle that the fats present in coconut are broken down immediately for releasing energy and is rarely stored as fat deposits.

Coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids or triglycerides in contrast to the vegetable oil that contain long chain fatty acids and triglycerides which encourages the body to produce fat. While medium chain fatty acids boost thermogenesis that increases the metabolic rate of the body and burns more fat. Thus virgin coconut oil increase metabolism, promotes weight loss, assist thyroid functioning, ameliorate energy level and avoids yeast and candid infections.

Different Phases of Coconut Diet

Coconut diet consists of four phases and the first phase last for 21 days and is called weight loss kickoff phase. The dieters can have three meals and two snacks during this phase but it must be concentrated more on vegetables and lean protein and sweets, carbohydrates, fruits, breads etc must be avoided. During this phase a person can lose around 10 pounds.

Phase two or cleansing phase allows dieters to drink lot of fluids made from vegetables and fibers and is concentrated more on cleansing the internal organs. This phase even recommends the usage of colon cleansers.

Third phase allows the dieters to reintroduce certain prohibited fruits, whole grains and limited quantity of starchy vegetables.

Fourth phase or maintenance phase is aimed to maintain the weight loss and is practiced once the targeted weight is attained. This phase allows almost all foods except certain fruits, sweets and alcohol.

During all the four phases the dieters are suggested to consume two or three tablespoon of virgin coconut oil daily and it can be incorporated in salad dressings, smoothies, sauces etc. Besides following the diet, the dieters are also advised to have 15 minutes exercisable daily.

The resistance training and aerobic exercises helps the person to remain healthy and fit. The major difficulty in following this diet is that the possibilities to dine out are very limited and most of the foods have to be prepared at home.

Moreover the recommended foods available in stores are expensive and the dieter must have a strong will so that he can easily give up caffeine, alcohol, sugar, dairy products, grains and fruits during the diet period.  People who are following coconut diet will get relief from their thyroid dysfunction, viral infections, fatigue etc in addition to their weight reduction.
