Everyone who has gained a few extra pounds likes to lose them at some point during their life. If the problem of weight gain keeps increasing then more than often people will resort to drastic measures to lose this weight. One very serious issue is crash dieting.

This is when a person looking to lose weight stops eating for an entire day. All they have is a few protein bars and water. That is their meal plan for the entire day or a few days, depending on how long they want to continue it for. Needless to say, crash dieting is extremely unhealthy for your body.

It is ensured that you will lose weight through crash dieting, but it is definitely not the type of weight your want to lose. In other words, normally when people lose weight it is the excess fat they lose. However through crash dieting all you lose is your muscle mass because muscle cells have more mass than fat cells and are easier to lose.

For obvious reasons this is very unhealthy for your body because losing muscles means all you are left with is a higher accumulation of fat. As well as that your metabolism will drastically slow down causing your immune system to suffer. Other bodily systems will also suffer and you will gradually fall very sick.

What most people tend to forget is that weight loss through crash dieting is very temporary. After a few short weeks you will regain all of the extra pounds you lost. There a lot of risks with this. During crash dieting you would have lost a few pounds of muscle mass and when in a few weeks when you regain your weight, you would have regained all of it in the form of fat, which is very bad for your body.

Even if you have a decent number of protein bars during your crash dieting session it still will not be enough for you because your body will be missing out on a lot of other extremely important vitamins and nutrients. Hence, do not keep your weight loss routine till the last minute, start losing it gradually and healthily so it is more permanent.
