Eat your way to a healthy life

Eating healthy does not mean eating less or not eating your favorite foods. It is just about having the right knowledge about eating habits and correcting yourself where yo u are wrong.You don’t have to be hard on yourself to switch to a healthy diet. Take small steps like introducing a bowl of salad in your diet. Remember, slow and steady wins the race. Even fats are good, if taken in moderation. Mono and poly unsaturated fats can reduce cholesterol levels. Almonds, avocados are good sources of good fats.

Switch to white meat instead of red meat. Pork, beef contains saturated fats which are very harmful. Opt for whole grain cereals and breads as they are rich in carbohydrates.

Never skip your meals. You often tend to overeat after that. Always have your breakfast, lunch and dinner on time and try to have healthy snacks in between. Have some fruits between lunch and dinner. Try to reduce the intake of salt and sugar in your diet. Excessive slat can lead to high blood pressure. Stay away from colas and caffeine. Opt for fresh juices.

You can also make some small changes in your cooking habits like try to stir fry instead of deep frying. Avoid oily dressings like mayonnaise. While having cheese, go for cottage cheese and tofu. Switch to green tea or herbal tea as it is a natural anti oxidant and helps in loosing some extra weight. Have protein rich foods like fish, soy products, skimmed milk etc.

When you work for long hours, avoid eating junk food like pizza and burgers. They can make you lethargic and lazy. Have salads or multi grain biscuits etc to keep your energy levels up.

It is very important to enjoy what you eat. Try to have your meals with your friends or your family. You tend to over eat when you are eating alone.
If you wish to change your eating habits, you need to figure out where you are going wrong. Try to make a list of whatever you eat for approximately one week. And then check the list and make appropriate changes in your diet and follow them.
