When you are diagnosed with colitis, it is best to make it easier for your digestive system to work. Likewise, gulping down three big meals a day would make your digestive system work overtime; thus, it is getting more and more vulnerable to the condition. So, instead of that, have 5-6 smaller but nutritionally richer meals per day.

Avoid the Unnecessary

Avoid the unnecessary foods, etc., which are not quite essential for your ‘system’. Having them occasionally is one thing, but do not make it a habit. We are talking about junk foods, fried and over fried foods, red meats, chocolates, etc. Also, limit foods that contain artificial sweeteners, fats, preservatives, etc. If it is not a problem, also stay away from caffeine and soft drinks; at least as much as possible.

The name sounds more dramatic than it is actually! It is a kind of yoga pose, which relieves the stress and tension in your mind, which may adversely affect the condition. Lie down on your back. Now, as you pull both your knees upwards (towards your chest), inhale.

After your knees have reached their peak, start exhaling and bring your legs back down. Then, after the legs are down, inhale and bring one of the legs back towards your head and exhale and bring the leg back down. Repeat the process with the other leg.

We do not suggest that you reduce eating fiber-rich foods. In fact, it has been seen that fiber-rich foods can actually help a patient of colitis. If you are having spasms, which you will have, often it will lead to cramps.

The fiber in your diet helps to avoid such spasms and thus such cramps. So, eat plenty of fresh fruits, green vegetables, barley, prunes, oatmeal, raisins, etc.

Fluids

One of the conditions which colitis brings is diarrhea. The individual should consume about half an ounce of water for every pound on his/her body weight. If he/she doesn’t, the chances of having the kidney stones and dehydration relapse will increase.

Do not go for carbonated drinks, coffees, alcohol, etc. These will make your condition worse. Also, try sipping the water and not gulping. Gulping will put immense pressure on your digestive tract.

Other than all these things, you should have a good amount of nutrition, minerals, etc. Go for a well-balanced diet as it will keep the organs healthy, keep them on working condition and make you feel better and cuddly, once again. Be safe and healthy!
