There are many times we feel sad, depressed and end up eating all kinds of food, some people refer it as emotional eating but alas this ain’t help much. To start with, eat unrefined carbohydrates. Brown rice, brown bread, wheat pastas are excellent for keeping the blood sugar in level thus reducing the stress. Don’t over eat; eat moderately and eat at least six to seven times a day. Eating heavily at one go will put pressure on digestion system thus had an adverse effect on your mood.
Include lots of fibers in your meals. This means lots of fruits and vegetables. Blueberries, oranges are rich in Vitamin C. When one is stressed, free radicals are released in the body. If these free radicals are not kept in check then it can cause several health problems. Vitamin C keeps these radicals under control. Thus helps the body to fight from cumulative effect of stress.
Drink lots of water. A dehydrated body is more prone to stress. Water shouldn’t be replaced with juices or aerated drinks. Make sure that you drink at least two liters of water a day.
Have sufficient protein in your meals. Soy for vegetarians and turkey for the non-vegetarians are excellent source of proteins. Turkey and even chicken contains amino acids (L-Tryptophan) which had calming effect on stress.
Milks and milk products are good source of B12, Calcium and Protein. These are also very good antioxidant, thus prevents cancer and heart diseases. By having a glass of warm milk before sleeping encourage good sleep.
Leafy vegetables like asparagus, spinach, lettuce, beans, and peas are rich source of folic acid. Folic acid affects noradrenalin and serotonin hormones. These hormones affect the mood swings. Thus appropriate amount of folic acid in food acts as an antidepressant.
Apricots, peas, nuts are good in magnesium. Magnesium helps in relaxing the muscle thus reducing the overall stress of the body.
Some other food items which have a good effect on the stress are sweet potatoes, tuna, soy products, tofu. You can see that not only these products are common but they also taste good. These are extremely healthy too. Introduce them in your daily food habit and say bye-bye to low mood!!
