Kids are often attracted to unhealthy junk foods. Many times the busy working schedule of parents impairs them from preparing healthy snacks and instead they buy biscuits, bread etc as snacks for their kids. Most of the breads and biscuits which are now available in market contain wheat flour, emulsifiers, sugar, artificial colors, salt etc.

These snacks add calories and fat to your kid with nil or little addition of nutrients. Healthy snacks are an important part of balanced diet which helps the kids to concentrate better and feel better. It also makes the kids more energetic and less tensed. Here are some ideas for healthy snacks that can attract kid.

Dips

Most of the kids like to dip their snack and eat. Make use of this habit and prepare a ranch dressing with low fat ingredients. Ranch dressing is a salad dressing made of mayonnaise, buttermilk or sour cream, garlic powder, minced green onion etc.

Depending on the kid’s choice mother can use flavored yogurt, bean dip, apple sauce etc as dips. Then serve whole wheat crackers, baked tortilla chips or pita triangles along with this dip with certain decorations. Even slices of vegetables and fruits can be served along with this dip. Many kids like to have carrot, cucumber, celery sticks, cherry, bell pepper, tomatoes etc along with their dip.

Frozen Snack

Many kids love to have frozen foods like snow cone, ice cream etc. Parents can make use of this habit. Frozen grapes are a good snack that provide vitamins, fibers and minerals to the kid and allows the kid to enjoy it like sweet candies or popsicles. Even a peeled banana can be frozen and roll in chocolate syrup and hacked nuts. Similarly you can make use of berries, peaches, nectarine slices etc.

Healthy Pizza

Kids fall in love with pizza and there is no need to say no for pizza. Pizza can be a healthy snack if it is made with low fat ingredients and nutritious vegetables.

For making pizza crust use whole pits, English muffin or tortilla. Use tomato sauce on top of this crust and sprinkle it lightly with low fat mozzarella cheese. Top the pizza with finely chopped vegetables and a little chicken or lean meat. Heat the pizza in microwave or in toaster for few minutes and cut them in to triangles.

While cooking for kids take care to garnish it as kids prefer the presentation of what they eat and with good presentation you can attract them easily.
