For a healthy life style, well balanced nutritious diet is required in addition to regular exercise. Fish being one of the good diets its consumption on a regular basis can reduce various risk factors for many diseases and disorders in the human body.

The consumption of too much saturated fat leads to increase in the level of cholesterol in human body.  Sea food especially the fish contains a very little fat. Eating fish at least two or three times a week will help in lowering the cholesterol contents. The result is reduction of risk of heart disease. Fish is a well balanced diet for our heart. When compared to meat and chicken, fish is an excellent source of quality protein.

To ensure the in take of omega -3 in adequate quantity, it is advisable to eat fish regularly.

It is also important to understand that some kinds of fish contain very high quantity of mercury, dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls and other contaminants due to the environment. In marine mammals and predatory, older and larger fish these substances are generally in the highest ratio.

Depending upon the stage of life of a person, the risks and benefits of eating fish differs.  Those fish that contains the highest level of mercury contamination like shark, sword fish, tile fish etc are not advisable to be given to pregnant women and children. They are advised to consume other variety of fish that contain low level mercury.

For all human beings consuming a variety of fish will be beneficial to minimize any adverse effects because of the external pollutants. Eating fried food is harmful whereas backed or grilled fishes are good.
