Pancreatitis Diet

Pancreas is a large gland constituting the first part of the small intestine. Pancreatitis is a condition in which the pancreas gets inflamed. Pancreas plays a key role in the process of digestion but when the pancreas is inflamed it is unable to perform its function normally.
Pancreatitis condition should not be ignored otherwise it can become chronic and give rise to several serious health problems and in severe cases, even death. A special diet is recommended for the pancreatitis patients. Given below are some useful guidelines on pancreatitis diet.

If you are suffering from pancreatitis, you can manage it by following a diet for pancreatitis. You will need to eliminate some specific foods from your diet and consume some particular foods and drinks only. Foods that are high in fat are not meant for you if you have become a victim of pancreatitis.



You must consume foods that are low in fat. It is a much better option to follow a vegetarian diet. But dairy products should be minimized as they can aggravate your condition. Fresh fruits and vegetables should form a large part of your diet and whole grains as well as lean meats should also be included.

Blueberries, spinach and red grapes are very beneficial for you due to their high content of iron, antioxidants, and B vitamins. Though other dairy products like cheese, milk, butter, and cream should be avoided, yogurt can be consumed because it can help you as it contains live active cultures or probiotics, which help in digestion and reduce the inflammation of your pancreas.

Foods containing protein can be consumed but they should be low in fat. Red meats, bacon, sausage, and other high-fat meats should be strictly eliminated from your diet as they are high in fat. You can get the necessary protein from tofu, fish, especially tuna; eggs, cooked lentils, and kidney beans.

You can eat plenty of carbohydrates but they should be derived from healthy foods such as baked potatoes, pasta, brown rice, whole grains, fruits, salads, vegetables, and oatmeal.

You must eliminate spicy foods as they can worsen your condition. Other foods to be avoided are junk foods, carbonated drinks, any gas producing foods like beans, fried foods, caffeinated drinks, tea, coffee, sugar, pizza, tobacco. Alcohol should be absolutely avoided.

Drink plenty of water
and keep yourself hydrated. And eat small meals to avoid any digestion problem.
