Spicy And Delicious Basil Chicken Recipe

Basil Chicken Recipe Basil chicken is a spicy entrée having its origins in Thai cuisine. This dish is extremely flavorful because the chicken is stir-fried with fresh basil and spicy Thai sauces and other herbs.

This recipe goes very well with plain rice or egg noodles. Read on to find out how to make this unique Thai chicken at home.



Ingredients

2-3 skinless boneless chicken breasts cut into thin strips
1 onion finely chopped
2-3 cloves of fresh garlic finely minced
2-3 whole red chilies or crushed paprika flakes
1 cup mixed bell peppers
1 cup fresh basil leaves roughly chopped
2 spoon fresh lime juice
3 spoons soy sauce
2 spoons oyster sauce
3 spoons fish sauce
4 spoons red Thai hot sauce
1 green onion finely chopped
2 spoons sugar
Salt to taste
2-3 spoons oil
1/4th cup chicken stock

Method

To make this basil chicken, clean the chicken breasts and cut them into thin strips. This will ensure that the spices, herbs and sauces coat the chicken very well when it is cooked resulting in a tastier dish. Begin making this dish by first combining the ingredients for the sauce. This sauce will give the dish awesome flavor and make it moist. To make the sauce, take a bowl and add the oyster sauce, fish sauce, soy sauce, and red Thai hot sauce. Add sugar and whisk all the ingredients very well to form a homogenous mix.



Take oil in a large work and when the oil gets heated, add the minced garlic, chopped onions, whole red chilies and the chopped green onions. Stir fry these ingredients at high flame for 2 minutes. You can also substitute whole red chilies with crushed paprika flakes. The number of red chilies or the amount of crushed paprika flakes added will depend on how spicy you want your dish to be.

You can vary the amount of chilies as per your preference. Next, add the chopped bell peppers and stir fry till they get cooked a little. The bell peppers should remain crisp and must not get completely cooked. This will impart great texture to the dish when it gets done. Once the bell peppers are done, add the chicken strips and stir-fry on high flame till the chicken gets cooked completely. You can add the chicken stock so that the chicken and other ingredients do not stick to the wok. Besides the chicken stock will make the dish moist and flavorful.



Once the chicken is done, reduce the flame a bit and add the prepared sauce. Let the sauce simmer with the chicken and other ingredients for a while so that the flavors of the sauce penetrate the chicken. Next, add the roughly chopped fresh basil leaves to the wok. Cover with a lid and stir everything very well. Let the dish cook covered for 2-3 minutes so that the flavor and aroma of the fresh basil gets absorbed into the chicken. After this, season with salt and turn off the flame. Add the fresh lime juice and remove this delicious basil chicken into a serving bowl. Serve hot garnished with basil leaves and chopped green onion.
