Water is lost from the body very quickly, and fats are also burned, which is what contributes to weight loss in this diet plan.

It has been found that people who follow this diet show very good results immediately. How much this is sustainable over time has yet to be established. There are problems which can be faced by people who stick with this diet for long. Some of these are as follows.

There is a considerable loss of water in the body. When this loss continues at this pace for a long time, there is the chance of the body getting dehydrated.

You could also have a loss of calcium from the foods that your body is denied. In the long run, you could even be inviting osteoporosis.

In trying to get rid of the water and ketones from your body, your kidneys suffer a lot of stress and strain. You have an increased chance of developing kidney problems later if you continue with this diet.

Since your body is not allowed the intake of dietary fibre which is got from grains fruits and vegetables, you could be constipated, get some intestinal problems and digestive troubles. You could also get kidney stones from the increased levels of uric acid in the body.

With the passage of time, you could have deprivation of some foods like rice, bread, sweets and pasta. It makes it very difficult to sustain for a long time. The cravings are bound to get he better of you eventually, and you could start to binge. There is also a chance of boredom setting in, and you could just start to lose interest in the program and the foods that you are limited to.
